Mind Your Manners Monday :: Toasting

In all the weddings and events I have coordinated/planned, I have heard some very memorable toasts, for both good and not so good reasons. Here are a couple tips that might be helpful for any of you planning a toast for an upcoming event:
1. Be mindful of your audience. If you plan on sharing inside jokes or stories, please consider how many people will actually be able to relate.
2. Keep it short and sweet. Some of the most memorable toasts I have heard are short, sweet and sincere.
3. Being asked to give a toast is an honor, and it should be treated as such.
4. Be sure to thank the host(s) of the event and those who asked you to speak. Sprinkling a little gratitude into your speech will immediately draw in everyone’s attention.
