Mind Your Manners Monday :: Addressing Family Wedding Invitations

Question: I’m getting started on addressing my wedding invitations, and was wondering what the proper etiquette is to address an invitation for a family including children if I am only using an outer envelope (no inner envelope). I’d really appreciate your insight!

Answer: When addressing an invitation to a family with only the outer envelope, you will include the parents on line one and list each of their children on line two in order of age.
For Example:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Patrick, Erica and Craig

For couples using an inner envelope, you will only include the parent’s names on the outer envelope.
Outer Envelope:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Inner Envelope:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Patrick, Erica and Craig

Keep in mind that children over 18 should receive their own invitation. If you have chosen to have an adults only celebration, be sure to leave children’s names off the outer and inner envelope.
